SLYPHNIER WIN32/64 Installation Step

like what i write on my previous entry, i got OS crash and need to reinstall the whole things… been 2 days and i can say the installation phase completed (there some software plug-ins i still need to install though) … next of course issue check and stability optimize phase …

Somehow i get some BSODs today, and kinda weird since i carefully step my installation process to make sure i didn’t do something wrong that make crash the system.

Then what… i figure out i forgot to disable Nero Scout and that f*ck bloating my system, after that i also find “Sound Mixer” (SndVol.exe) in taskbar won’t open, its seems there something that preventing it from running. After hours of searching how to fix the issue, start from basic (re-installing soundcard driver) to advanced step including disabling autostart . windows services… but the problem still there, then i decide to take rest and continue to fix it on few hours later.

Then after another few hours of searching i figure out what prevent me from opening Sound Mixer, its the AVG (antivirus that i install) that disrupted my soundcard installation. So i disable AntiVirus “resident shield” and re-install my soundcard, viola i fix the issue. The reason i didn’t turn of resident shield is until now i rarely face problems with resident shield active when installation. But like IT master said, all active problem should be disabled when you installing new things.

Anyway i dunno whether it can help other people or not, but i make this note personally for me note.

OS – Installation Step . WINDOWS 32/64 . ver.0.019Pre

NOTICE:
※ For people following this step, make sure you prepare time for this process, estimate completion time is variable depending your system spec, but prepare 1days full to fully complete process.

1. Install OS [est. 45mins - 1hours+]
>/ if previous OS installed, delete the previous installation by deleting the partition and format the partition.

2. Driver Installation [est. 30mins - 1hours]
※ The reason i prefer driver installation first than windows update is that your system need driver to work properly, so i believe installing driver over other installation is good idea.
※ There are some driver that need first release driver (the one that came with the bundle package) in order to get full function. In this case, install first release driver following latest version driver after Reboot
※ Don’t hesitate restarting your system when it asked after installing driver, installing one by one is the best way to prevent error/crash, also it easier to find broken driver that make errors.

3. Windows Update [est. 1hours - 3hours+]
>/ After Driver installation complete, check you “Device Manager” make sure you install all driver.
>/ After everything ok with Driver Installation, proceed to Windows Update.
※ Skip driver update that sometimes available on Windows Update, while those driver have WHQL, but that doesn’t mean the driver will works properly with your hardware, getting latest driver from hardware maker is the best, make sure you get latest stable driver (not beta/ReleaseCandidate version)
※ Rather install all update one time, its good thing if you split them up, its for maintainin your installation process and avoid errors/crash.

4. HardDrive Scan (scandisk) [1hours+ - 3hours+]
※ The reason is run HardDrive Scan is sometimes OS didn’t index cluster properly when formating the drive, so by running ScanDisk you can know your harddrive status also if there problem you can figure out sooner.

5. Software Installation [1hour-2hours+]
Optional : Disable your WindowsDefender

>/ Base Software (Office . Internet Browser . Multimedia)
Make sure you install important software first! Install later for software that can installed later (plug-ins . AntiVirus . Accesories .Games).
- for people that installing office, update your office after installation.
- If software update available, proceed by updating it.
※ After phase.1 software installation complete you can continue installing AntiVirus and other stuff.
- Make sure you disable your AntiVirus ResidentShield everytime you install new software!.
- For people installing Nero Burning Software start from version 7.
>/ Remove Nero Home by un-check it on installation process, if you install it,then disable it!
>/ Disable Nero Scout, My Computer ⇒ Nero Scout ⇒ RightClick.Property ⇒ Disable Nero Scout
I dunno whether there some people using those junk or not, but imo those things just giving you trouble rather than helping you, as it bloating your system by doing some indexing process.

6. Optional Step [2hours+ . 5hours+ for vista user]
After installation process, your harddrive should be really messy, so i really recommend you run HDD Defragmenter, IMHO the one came with OS more than enough.
- Defragmenter completed, re-active your AV resident shield, cheer you complete the step, hope your computer free from crash.BSOD.

※ I can’t say that your computer at maximum stability at this point since, the Registry should have errors after lots installation, i using RegisteryBooster to check my Registery, usually i got more than 90 registery errors at this point. Its kinda difficult, since there are things that not needed to fix, also there are things that keep coming when restarting system, things that if you can’t remove.
So if you don’t have any issue, i recommend just use your system as usual.
For people that have issue, tried by fixing the registry, but instead leave it all to the software, make sure you pick things that you think that it was the source of your issue or not needed(empty registry). Leave it alone for things that you don’t sure.
Well don’t be so that paranoid, since RegisteryBooster have backup function, just make sure you make either full or partial backup when you modifying your registry, so you can roll-back if you get trouble.

※ Other Things i do to optimize my system is Disable some stuff that autostart when login windows.
You can check and set them using msconfig or for people that paranoid enough touching such critical things, can try SpeedUpMyPC, i dun using many stuff that SpeedUpMyPc give, the only things i use is autostart settings.

Why i recommend those uniblue software, is because i am using it and so far get no problem from it, beside its microsoft partner so i believe they are safe enough to use different from other registery tools.
※ i dun get anything from recommending those software.

Things to Realize
In Windows world, you can’t make your PC free from bugs/errors, you only can reduce it to a point that stable enough for use, why i said that is because in windows world there thousand hardware and software variations and its just impossible to make them work each other perfectly just like in real worlds where each people have each characterization and even they can work together there is limit.

Compared to other OS
>/ MAC is better due limited hardware option and software thus making errors so limited and rather easy to fix.
>/ Linux do have bugs/errors/crash, maybe lots more than Windows since there lots Linux variant out there (its been long time since last time i use linux (RedHat), though infamous linux distro such as Ubuntu or Fedora have more hardware support and should more stable.
Anyway thanks to its open.source system, you can fix bugs/errors far easily than windows environment

Using windows in your working environment
+ Office – computer in offices, usually installed using hdd image software, so each computer should have same software same capabilities, TechnicalSupport can’t be bothered installing each PC. In this environment u don’t need to even think about optimizing your system, as long your system works as it should then just use your system. Afterall thats your office pc so dun think much about it.

+ Home/Workstation
– standard user – home pc for standard user is just same like office pc, just use your pc with stuff that PC maker (standard user tends to buy Branded PC) give you. you can optimize your pc performance if you want, but i am afraid some user don’t have enough knowledge doing things that they don’t know and might lead to bad the things.

– Gamer – Gamer should know more knowledge than average pc user, since they want their system better than average pc, from that they learn to know about computer and they at least have basic knowledge in pc, you can start using optimizing software (choose carefully optimizing software you use), after you know more about how to optimize your system, then you can begin manual optimizing your system. But aside gamer knowledge in pc, gamer tends/prefer to format their system after a while, while formatting is the best way to reduce system conflicts, but for people that using lots software like me, often formatting is not good way. While there are real prove, but imo often formatting can wear your hard drive faster.

– Proggramer/Designer/Work (Enthusiast) – on this level, they pc knowledge should be good enough to do system optimizing, although there are some people that only know and good at using specific software that they use in their work and don’t know much about the system.

The basic of PC Optimizing is :
>/ Remove stuff that bloating your system
>/ Disable/Delete things that may lead crash (this including registery errors)
while it sound easy, but imho its not that such easy things.
Different from overclocking that maximize system, optimizing pc is making system in stable enviroment and you can enjoy using your pc free from troubles.

Maybe some of you want to ask “are you sure you didn’t have hardware issue?” and “i didn’t see any trouble on my pc, but from reading this it makes me think that lots trouble to fix”
A: Of course when having trouble i check the hardware status, since faulty hardware often the source of the issue. And well like i said, when you don’t see any problem, just use your PC as it, since its better. But if you curious enough and try searching it, sooner or later u will find it, depends on the user, user that use lots software can face numerous issues. But if the issue don’t bother you, leave it as it.

Basic in solving System Issue
>/ BSOD – when you get BSOD make note what make your system crash, usually .dll files (often display or soundcard driver files) and note error code too (0×000000** , ** is error code id), then look for those issue on the .net
